Meet "The Dragon" - Natural Edge Black Walnut Crotch Hollow Form

This has been the most challenging turning to date for me.  Measuring in at 10" tall , 7" diameter, this natural edge black walnut hollow form stretched my skills and tested my nerves.  

This hollow form was turned from a crotch piece of beautiful salvaged black walnut I got from some nice folks in Mokena IL last year.  It was turned while wet and contains multiple sections of pithe which means it will most likely develop cracks around the pith sections over time.  This will add even more character to this absolutely unique work of art.

This hollow form was names after UFC veteran, Layoto Machida.

This hollow form was treated with sanding sealer, polished with Yorkshire Grit, sealed with 5 coats of shellac and finally finished with 3 coats of lacquer.
