Meet "Mayhem" - A Large Beyond Spalted Butternut (White Walnut) Fruit Bowl Turned by local woodturner, our very own "The Beard", himself.

Turned Dimensions:  13" Diameter x 4" Height

The wood was salvaged from some super nice folks in Bourbonnais who reached out to see if The Beard wanted it as the wood was too pretty to burn in their eyes....and we are so thankful they did because they were right!  A couple of our favorite pieces have come from that large butternut (white walnut) log they gave us.

We decided to name this one after MMA legend Jason "Mayhem" Miller because when first mounted on the lathe, the bowl blank was so large and unbalanced it literally sheared a pin and shook our lathe totally apart!  After fabricating a new stronger pin and putting it back together, (praise GOD) The Beard was able to finish the turning.  This bowl is the largest he's turned to date and because it was larger than his lathe "swing", He had to do his first "outboard" turning which is done by turning the headstock sideways and is difficult because there is no tailstock support....hence the "Mayhem" that ensued when the vibration shook his lathe apart.
