"The War Horse" - Live Edge Black Walnut Pedestal Bowl

I turned this one of a kind Live Edge Black Walnut Pedestal Bowl on 1/9/2024 in Saint Anne, IL.  Measuring in at 5.25" tall and 7.5" in diameter, this beautiful live edge bowl was made from salvaged wood - acquired from some nice folks in Mokena, IL.  The unique shape of this bowl really shows off the stunning grain of this particular black walnut tree.

Named after current UFC fighter Khalil Rountree Jr. who lost 100 lbs after starting to train MMA as a way to lose weight and get in shape.  In an unrelated parallel story, this item started out as a large bowl blank with big potential. However, after chasing a crack through 1/3 of the blank, this large potential turned into a smaller than anticipated finished product. 

Treated with sanding sealer, polished with Yorkshire grit, sealed with 4 coats of Shellac and finally finished with 4 coats of Varnish.
