American Elm #1 | Natural Edge Winged Elm Bowl | (Flawed)

This is the first piece of American Elm the Beard has turned.  Mistakes were made, lessons were learned.  The bowl has been marked as flawed becuase at the top of the bowl on each side where the bowl curves inward, the live edge had to be taken out in order to finish the turning.  Somewhere along the way the Beard made a mistake and in order to correct it, the live edge had to get cut short.  The bowl is still absolutely beautiful.  The wood grain is stunning and the profile of this bowl is (as the kids these days say) fire!

The bowl was turned wet but very thin so minimal warping and cracking are expected.  The bowl does contain at least one small pith section that is at a higher risk of cracking as it finishes drying.

Sealed with sanding sealer, polished with Yorkshire Grit, treated with a coat of polyurethane (to slow the drying process) and finally finished with the Beall Buffing System 3-step finishing process ending with a coat of carnauba wax.
