Natural Edge Winged Black Walnut Bowl

This is the first item turned from a beautiful load of black walnut the Beard sourced locally (just north of the Kankakee area) from some nice folks who had an incredibly tall black walnut tree lose a large limb.  This small winged bowl was made from the smallest piece out of the truckload.  Turned wet, sealed with multiple coats of polyurethane which was buffed at high speed and finished with a mix of Food-Grade Mineral Oil, Beeswax, & Carnauba Wax and polished to a nice gloss.  The pictures don't do this wood justice - it is simply stunning.

*Although it was turned fairly thin (which typically prevents cracking), because this piece is "once turned" (sealed/finished directly after turning wet) AND still has 2 sections of pith, there is a chance it could crack around the pith as it slowly dries over time.  Any time you leave the pith in a piece, there is a high likelihood of it cracking.
